Stanley Andrew Drobiak
January 16, 1929 - December 8, 2010


Stanley Andrew Drobiak, 81, of 17 Burleson Lane in Jewett City, CT entered eternal life on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Stanley was born in Jewett City on January 16, 1929, the son of the late Anna (Razmus) and Kasper Drobiak. Stanley attended Riverside Elementary and Griswold High School, graduating in 1947.

An avid athlete at Griswold High School, Stanley excelled in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. Upon graduation, Stanley signed a professional baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he played throughout the Northeast. His love for athletics continued throughout his life, as he coached many teams in all sports through the years. His greatest love was watching his children and grandchildren
continue the athletic legacy. He was consistently visible at Griswold athletic contests, always remaining a true Wolverine.

From an early age, Stanley had music in his heart. He was an
accomplished trumpet player and vocalist, leading numerous bands throughout New England. He was extremely proud that his passion for music and athletics continued through his children and grandchildren.

Stanley was a businessman, owning and operating Drob's Package Store for many years. He also was part owner of a construction company, building many residential properties throughout Griswold. He was a local politician, serving as the Borough Warden and also volunteering on many boards and committees, including the Board of Burgesses, the Board of
Education, the Board of Directors of the Jewett City Little League, among others.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia (Thornton)
Drobiak, their children, David, Susan Rourke and her husband Michael, Laurie Sorder and her husband Raymond, and Andrew "Archie" and his wife Robin, all of Griswold. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother and best friend, Leon, and is survived by his special sister-in-law Evalyn, and her three sons.
